Summer Fun!

We really had a great summer. Aside from working, we spent our days at the beach, pool, and had skate sessions at home. Cadell went on his first trip to NYC and Washington, D.C with his other grandma and got to meet his family on his dad’s side. While he was away for three weeks, Kelly and I spent a few days out of town and enjoyed every minute of it. My daughter is living with us now, so we were able to spend a lot of quality time together as a family. Here are some highlights from our summer…

So now we’re easing back into our school routine, and we’re looking forward to fall. Kelly and I are keeping busy with work and we’ve got some exciting home projects going on, which I’ll share later. I hope everyone is having a great week!

Weekend Getaway

Kelly and I haven’t taken a vacation in about six years, but every so often, we’re able to go for a weekend getaway. We usually venture south along our east coast to a beach that’s more quiet. We were able to go for a long weekend about two weeks ago, and it was SO NICE! We thrifted for two days, went out to dinner, relaxed for a full day, and spent some time on our room balcony looking out to the ocean. It just never gets old.

Last month we took a little trip to Marina Skate Park, which is about an hour away from us. Our friend Tony, with Misiano Skateparks built it a few years ago and we wanted Cadell to check it out. As usual, we had a blast. Cadell loved it, and I had fun shooting photos at a different location. The atmosphere was pretty nice because it was right on the river. I’m looking forward to our next adventure!

We are less than a month into our summer break, and we’re having a blast! On the last day of school, I took Cadell to the skate park and they were having tryouts for a local skate team. He wanted to give it a shot, so he competed for a spot and made it! It was a great way to kick off the summer.

Aside from working, we’ve been thrifting, going to the beach, and getting together with friends for skate sessions and BBQs. I love this time with my little family!

We spent Friday over in Mount Dora at Renninger’s Extravaganza. They’re only held three times a year, and the last one was in February, so we were really excited to go. There’s always something new and we walk away with something great after every trip. Kelly picked up a really nice Eames style lounge chair (1st photo), so he was happy. I found four great items for my shop, so I’ll be adding them this week. There were so many things that I found at a reasonable price, but I was on a budget. The next one is in January, so I’ll be more prepared next time.

I’ll be back later this week with some shop updates. I have LOTS of great items in my shop, just in time for the holidays!

Our first month of summer vacation has been great! We’ve been doing lots of fun and thrifty things so far. It has been way easier than I anticipated and it’s so nice to just enjoy my time with Cadell and Kelly. We’ve also had some cookouts and friends over, and it’s really nice to finally enjoy our home and yard. I hope your summer is off to a good start!

Happy Monday, everyone! Here are my favorite Instagram shots from the past few weeks. I’ve been having a lot of fun experimenting with different photo editing apps. such as AfterLight, VSCO CAM, and Snapseed. They all have unique features and create different looks for your images.

I had a pretty good morning in thriftland, so I’ll be adding those new items to my shop today. I’ll be back here soon with some shop updates!

We had a really great day at the flea market.. The weather was absolutely perfect, we had a great lunch, and found a couple of things for the house. We’re basically replacing (upgrading) a couple of things in exchange, so we were able to justify the purchases. We didn’t see many mcm items, but as usual we enjoyed it anyway and didn’t walk away empty-handed. It has been a really nice 3-day weekend, but today I’ll have a full day of taking photos and listing items. I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend!

Chromeography

KarmannGhia1

I took this shot for a school assignment about two years ago, and then added it to my Flickr photostream. Later, while I was looking for something completely unrelated, I stumbled across the Flickr group Chromeography, which was created by Stephen Coles, a designer and author of The Anatomy of Type. The group focuses on the emblems or lettering attached to mid-century automobiles and appliances. I thought my photo would be an acceptable addition to the group, so I joined and added this photo. *Note-my instructor didn’t care for it.. Oh well..

Last November, Stephen held a small exhibition at the Mota Italic Gallery in Berlin, Germany. As a photography school dropout (due to financial reasons), I was honored when I received a message from Stephen asking permission to use my photo. Are you kidding? I’m grateful to anyone who appreciates my photography, and I’m always happy to contribute a small part to such a cool event.

Here’s a great presentation from Stephen Coles about his Chromeography project.

Stephen also launched Chromeography.com, which is a gallery site dedicated to showcasing the best shots. This RCA Victor shot was my most recent addition to the Chromeography group.

Olympia_Typewriter

Mid-century Olympia typewriter. I’m always stumbling across great vintage items like this one. With the lettering, surface texture and keys, I saw a good shot for the Chromeography group.

I’m really humbled by some of the other photographers in this group. I’m looking forward to continuing my search for great emblems and I always love to see what other members come up with. Be sure to check out Chromeography.com. You will not regret it!
